The attractive Kanas Lake
Have you ever dreamt of visiting a place where the scenery changes like a magic picture book? Welcome to Kanas Lake in Xinjiang, a fairyland on earth that will take your breath away. Kanas Lake, the second largest deep-water lake in China, has a water depth of 188.4 metres.
The most amazing thing about Kanas Lake is its “vertical (垂直的) painting” of nature. If you look from the foot to the top of the mountains near the lake, you can see seven different landscapes. They range from green grasslands and dense (茂密的) forests near the water to snowy peaks high above.
Kanas Lake is also a master of colour. Its water is not just blue; it changes with the seasons and weather. In summer, it looks milky green-blue, while in autumn, it turns deep sapphire blue. This magical change happens because the water contains tiny mineral particles (矿物质粒子) from melted glaciers, which reflect sunlight in beautiful ways.
This perfect environment is home to many living things. Nearly 1,000 kinds of plants grow here, and over 100 species of birds and rare animals like sable (紫貂) and red deer live in the forests.

At church, Mrs Thatcher talked to Mrs Harper and found out that Becky had not slept there last night. Where was she? Then Aunt Polly said Tom had not come home either. They asked if anybody had seen them on the boat. Nobody could remember.
“They must still be in the caves!” said somebody.
A large group of men went to the caves to search for the two children. They searched all day. They searched for three days, but they did not find Tom or Becky. Where could they be?
At the picnic, Tom and Becky went into the caves with the other children. They took their candles and walked down a small tunnel. Then Tom saw a small opening he had never seen before. He decided to explore. Becky came with him. They made some marks on the wall. This would help them find their way back. They found a large cave with a spring in it. There were a lot of bats hanging on the roof. The bats did not like the candlelight and attacked the children. Tom and Becky ran. They did not watch where they were going. They escaped from the bats and found a lake. They sat down to rest.
“We haven’t heard the other children for a long time,” said Becky.
“We’d better go back,” suggested Tom.
They tried to find a way back without going through the cave with bats. They were soon lost. They didn’t know how to get back. They began to shout. Nobody answered.

In 2025, Guangxi faced a serious drought. No one in Guangxi ever imagined facing such a terrible drought. It changed our green, rainy home into a dry and dead place. From the beginning of November 2024 to May 2025, there was hardly any heavy rain here. Only light rain fell on the ground sometimes. This was the lowest since 1961.
▲ A weather event called La Niña sent strong winds from the north over Guangxi. Also, the high-pressure system kept wet air away, so it was hotter and less rainy.
The unusual drought affected people’s drinking water and crops. Thousands of people didn’t have enough water to drink, and large areas of crops were dying. Many cities like Nanning and Guilin, along with lots of counties (县), had drought problems. In Guigang, some small water pools even had no water left.
The government tried its best to help. They dug many new wells (井) for water and did cloud seeding (人工降雨) many times. The government used a large amount of money to solve the problems, such as rebuilding farms, buying water tools and sending water. These made sure people had enough water until the rains (雨季) came. In June, it rained a lot, and the land turned green again.
Guangxi’s drought tells a truth: Nature is like a magic box full of surprises. Just when we think we understand it well enough, it suddenly shows us something we didn’t expect. It reminds us that no matter how much we study and prepare, nature always has its own rules and ways of working.

There have recently been a lot of arguments about homework. As a teacher, I strongly believe in the benefits of quality homework. Besides preparing students for university life, it teaches important life skills that will benefit (使受益) students for the rest of their lives.
Some people argue that homework is causing stress and depression (抑郁) to rise in children. But to blame (责怪) homework for these health problems is wrong. Social pressures cause more stress for teenagers than homework. If people really care about the health of students, they would spend more time solving the problems that cause pressure in schools rather than complaining about homework.
In addition, those who are against homework believe that students end up hating the time spent instead of enjoying learning. However, the problem is the type of homework being assigned (布置). It is the quality not quantity (数量) of homework that will improve students’ learning and their enjoyment. Repetitive (重复的) worksheets where students remember historical dates and names or solve math problems over and over again are less beneficial than more creative project-based homework.
Primary students will finally be in middle and high school where homework will be assigned. If they have preparation in primary school, they will easily adjust to life with homework later. The important thing is to assign just enough homework to help students learn.
In fact, homework allows parents to be aware of what their child is doing at school and how well their academic (学术的) and thinking skills are developing. If they notice that their child is taking an unreasonable amount of time completing their homework, parents can call the teacher’s attention to the problem.
Finally, homework helps to teach students important study and life skills that will set them up for future success. They learn how to manage their time so that they can finish their homework and other activities. At times, they might try very hard to complete the homework, but by working through it, they learn not to lose heart. These are skills that will not only benefit them in their academic life but in their adult lives as well.
We should realize that quality homework can help to show children the connection between what they are learning in school and how it can be used outside of schools, and it should allow the students to have fun while doing it. Learning should not only be contained within a classroom; it should be extended to all areas of our lives.
34.Which of the following phrases has the similar meaning to “adjust to”?
A.get tired of B.get used to
C.feel worried about D.feel curious about
35.What can we know about quality homework from the text?
A.It causes many physical and mental problems to students.
B.It has nothing to do with students’ study and life skills.
C.Students only need to do it at primary and middle school.
D.Students can prepare for their future better by doing it.
36.What does the writer think of homework?
A.The influence of homework is beyond the teachers’ control.
B.Whether homework is helpful or not depends on its quality.
C.Homework is far more important than any other school activity.
D.Homework should be finished in class instead of after school.
【答案】34.B 35.D 36.B

36.根据第3段中的“However, the problem is the type of homework being assigned (布置). It is the quality not quantity (数量) of homework that will improve students’ learning and their enjoyment.”可知,作者认为家庭作业是否有用取决于它的质量。

In 1988, Dashan performed in CCTV’s New Year’s Gala (春节联欢晚会) and he became famous soon. He said that he had witnessed (见证) many changes in China. 37
To Dashan, one of the greatest changes in China is its way of communicating (交流) with the outside world. His first trip to China in 1988 lasted days and he had to change planes and then took a train journey from Hong Kong to Beijing. 38 And during his first two years in China he had to write letters to his family. 阅读下面短文,回答短文后的问题。
In recent times, stand-up comedy (脱口秀) has become popular in China. I’m a big fan of it. For me, watching stand-up comedy offers a way to relax.
One of my favourite comedians has explained the different ways in which Western and Asian people express love and care for others. It got me thinking about how people express love.
I was born into a typical (典型的) East Asian family. Although my family has always provided well for me, I seldom expressed my love or thankfulness to my parents. My parents never said anything like “You are the best boy” to me even when I made great improvements in my schoolwork.
The question of how love is communicated has often crossed my mind. Recently, thanks to the comedian’s ideas, I’ve come to realize that in Chinese culture food plays an important part in expressing love. The most common way for us to show love is through preparing delicious meals for loved ones.
As far as I can remember, my parents always try to prepare delicious meals for me. Whenever I return home, warm dishes are waiting for me. The meal warms not only my stomach but also my heart.
Our culture may not stress verbal (口头的) expressions of love, but love is expressed in a warm way.
41.Why does the writer enjoy watching stand-up comedy?
42.What plays an important part in expressing love in Chinese culture?
43.What does the writer think of the warm dishes?
44.How do you usually express your love to your parents?
【答案】41.Because watching stand-up comedy offers a way to relax. 42.Food. 43.The writer thinks the warm dishes warm not only his stomach but also his heart. 44.I usually express my love to my parents by helping them with housework.
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章介绍了作者作为脱口秀的粉丝,通过脱口秀引发了对中西方表达爱的方式的思考,尤其探讨了中国文化中通过食物表达爱的方式。
41.根据“For me, watching stand-up comedy offers a way to relax.”可知,作者喜欢看脱口秀是因为它提供了一种放松的方式。故填Because watching stand-up comedy offers a way to relax.
42.根据“I’ve come to realize that in Chinese culture food plays an important part in expressing love.”可知,在中国文化中,食物在表达爱中起着重要的作用。故填Food.
43.根据“Whenever I return home, warm dishes are waiting for me. The meal warms not only my stomach but also my heart.”可知,作者认为热腾腾的饭菜不仅温暖了他的胃,也温暖了他的心。故填The writer thinks the warm dishes warm not only his stomach but also his heart.
44.开放性作答,结合实际,言之有理即可。参考答案为I usually express my love to my parents by helping them with housework.
六、综合填空(共10小题;每小题1分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,在空白处填入一个适当的单词或括号内单词的正确形式。
Since digital stickers (表情包) first came out, they 45 (be) an important part of our daily online communication. They are 46 (wide) used because they can express how someone feels or what someone wants to say.
Stickers can be interesting, foolish or serious. People can use them 47 (celebrate) or complain (抱怨) without 48 (say) a word.
A survey finds that 36% of people 49 (age) from 18 to 36 prefer pictures to words. Many of them think stickers are the best way to pass 50 (they) feelings.
While emojis are simple symbols that stand for a feeling, stickers are made up of many parts. Some of them have several 51 (mean) and have been designed to show real-life experiences.
Some people treat stickers like toys. They compete to see who can collect the most and 52 (funny) ones. Others use them as a social tool. Stickers provide 53 easy way for people to communicate with new and old friends.
No matter how stickers are used, they have become the 54 (choose) of many people.
【答案】
45.have been 46.widely 47.to celebrate 48.saying 49.aged 50.their 51.meanings 52.funniest 53.an 54.choice
根据“Since digital stickers (表情包) first came out”可知,句子时态是现在完成时,其结构为“have/has + 过去分词”,主语“they”是复数,所以用have,be的过去分词是been。
“use sth. to do sth.”

They escaped from the bats and found a lake. They sat down to rest.
“We haven’t heard the other children for a long time,” said Becky.

30.How long did the drought in Guangxi last (持续)?
A.For 3 months. B.For 6 months.
C.For 7 months. D.For 9 months.
31.Which sentence should we put in “ ▲ ” in Paragraph 2?
A.Why did this happen? B.Where can we find more water?
C.What can we do during the drought? D.Who had the biggest problems during the drought?
32.Which way did the government NOT use to fight against the drought?
A.Doing cloud seeding. B.Buying water tools.
C.Building more houses. D.Digging new wells.
33.What is the best title for the text?
A.A Story of La Niña in Guangxi B.A Drought in Guangxi
C.The Rainy Season in Guangxi D.Nature Is like a Magic Box
D

“For the past years, my life has been changing along with China,” said Dashan, a Canadian who is liked by many Chinese during an interview.
It took two weeks for the mail to arrive in Ottawa and another two weeks for him to get a reply (回信).
“Now, everything has changed. 39 Of course we can also talk for free on the Internet,” he said.
“We couldn’t see many foreigners in China then. But nowadays there are more and more foreigners in China. Many of them speak good Chinese. 40 Because as China opens more and develops more, China becomes stronger, more and more foreigners want to learn more about China,” he also said.
Why are there so many changes? Dashan’s answer is that China is opening more and the government is trying hard to make the country stronger.
A.Now it takes only 13 hours to fly non-stop from Toronto to Beijing.
B.He has lived in China for more than 30 years.
C.I can talk with my parents on a mobile phone and it costs only 4 yuan a minute.
D.This is only natural.
E.He often goes back to Canada to visit his family.
F.These changes make his life in China easier and happier.

D

“For the past years, my life has been changing along with China,” said Dashan, a Canadian who is liked by many Chinese during an interview.
